October 31, 2024Happy Halloween from Pacific Towing! 🎃 Tonight, neighborhoods across Canada will be buzzing with excited trick-or-treaters dressed in their spookiest costumes. Halloween is a wonderful time for families, but with so many little ones out on the streets, it’s crucial to drive carefully to keep everyone safe. Here are some quick Halloween driving safety tips to remember as you hit the road tonight!
Halloween Driving Safety Tips for Tonight
Drive Slowly and Be Extra Cautious
Children are out and about, often in dark costumes. Reduce your speed and watch out for kids crossing the street, especially in residential areas where trick-or-treating is popular.
Stay Focused and Put Your Phone Away
Keep your full attention on the road. Halloween brings unexpected activity, and it only takes a second of distraction to miss something important. Wait until you’re parked or stopped to check your phone.
Watch Out for Driveways and Crosswalks
Trick-or-treaters may dart across driveways or crosswalks without warning. When pulling out or into a driveway, go slow, and check both ways to make sure no little ghosts or goblins are nearby.
Use Your Headlights, Even Before Dark
Turning on your headlights early helps you spot children in darker costumes and makes your car more visible to pedestrians.
Limit Inside Distractions
Keep the radio volume low, and if possible, roll down your windows to be more aware of your surroundings. This helps you hear any nearby trick-or-treaters and enhances your alertness.
Check Your Costume if You’re Wearing One
If you’re wearing a costume, make sure it doesn’t obstruct your vision or interfere with your ability to drive safely.

October 30, 2024As winter sweeps across Canada, drivers face unique challenges from snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. Whether you’re navigating Toronto’s busy streets, the snowy roads of Calgary, or the cold highways of Montreal, it’s essential to prepare for winter driving conditions. Here at Pacific Towing, we’re committed to keeping you safe on the road, offering services like tow, heavy towing, and commercial towing to support you whenever you need help. Here are some expert winter driving tips to keep you, your passengers, and other drivers safe this season.
1. Slow Down on Icy Roads
Winter roads reduce traction. Lowering your speed helps you maintain control, especially in snowy or icy areas. When driving in Canadian cities with heavy snowfall, like Ottawa or Edmonton, slowing down is key to staying safe.
2. Increase Your Following Distance
In winter conditions, double or triple your usual following distance. This extra space lets you stop safely if needed, a crucial measure on snowy highways and icy streets across Canada.
3. Drive Smoothly
Avoid sudden movements. Accelerate, brake, and turn gently to prevent skidding. Whether you’re driving through snowy Calgary or icy Quebec City, smooth handling reduces the chance of losing control.
4. Prepare an Emergency Kit
Keep essentials like blankets, food, water, and a flashlight in your vehicle. This kit can be a lifesaver if you get stranded and need to wait for towing assistance, especially on isolated roads.
5. Keep Your Fuel Tank Half Full
Prevent fuel line freeze and ensure you have enough gas if you encounter delays.
Maintaining at least a half-full tank is wise on long drives across remote areas of Ontario or the northern regions of Alberta.
6. Check Tires for Winter
Ensure your tires have good tread and proper inflation. Winter or all-season tires help with traction on icy roads. If you need help, Pacific Towing provides reliable commercial towing and heavy truck towing across Canadian cities.
Stay Safe This Winter
Prepare your vehicle, drive smart, and rely on Pacific Towing as your go-to towing partner in Canada

October 29, 2024An early morning crash on Highway 12 in Tay Township involved an OPP cruiser and a suspected impaired driver. At midnight, a minivan’s eastbound driver struck an OPP SUV parked on Highway 12 near Wye Valley Road. The OPP officer had pulled over with emergency lights flashing. The OPP SUV had its emergency lights on at the time of the collision. The impact pushed the cruiser into a ditch and caused the minivan to roll onto its side.
Thankfully, no one was injured. The officer in the cruiser exited safely and, with the help of passing drivers, assisted the minivan’s driver and passenger. Paramedics on the scene found no injuries for either individual.
After conducting a thorough investigation, officers determined the 31-year-old Tay Township man drove impaired by alcohol. Consequently, they arrested him and brought him to the police station for breath testing.
The test confirmed their suspicions, leading to charges of impaired driving and exceeding the legal blood alcohol limit. Furthermore, his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
This incident highlights the importance of vigilant law enforcement in preventing alcohol-related accidents and underscores the severity of impaired driving, as well as the critical role of towing and heavy-duty services. October 10, 2024As autumn arrives, vibrant colors and cooler evenings bring unique driving challenges, especially for the towing and trucking industries. Hazards like unpredictable weather, wildlife activity, and shorter daylight hours affect road safety. Pacific Towing highlights the importance of preparation for reliable service across Ontario.
With increased demand for commercial towing in fall, regular vehicle maintenance is crucial for safer driving. Whether for personal or fleet vehicles, staying vigilant helps navigate seasonal challenges effectively.
Cold Weather Affects Your Tire Traction
Decreased Grip: Colder temperatures can significantly reduce tire traction, particularly on wet or frosty roads.
Regular Checks: It’s essential to regularly inspect your tire pressure and tread to prepare for unpredictable autumn weather.
Risk of Accidents: Poor tire traction can lead to accidents, increasing the need for towing services.
Reliable Support: Pacific Towing offers quick and reliable roadside assistance, including commercial towing for heavy-duty vehicles.
Wildlife Hazards on the Road
Increased Activity: Fall brings heightened wildlife movement, especially from deer, leading to a surge in accidents.
Peak Season: November sees the highest number of deer-related collisions, making it crucial to stay alert.

Emergency Support: If you experience a collision or vehicle damage due to wildlife, Pacific Towing is ready to assist with emergency towing services.
Heavy-Duty Assistance: Our fleet of heavy-duty tow trucks is equipped to handle any situation, ensuring you get back on the road safely.

Avoid Driving in Severe Weather: Whenever possible, it’s best to stay off the road during severe weather conditions, as suggested by experts from the AAA.
Keep an Emergency Kit Ready: Equip your vehicle with a well-stocked emergency kit that includes: A phone charger, Bottled water, A flashlight with extra batteries, Warm blankets for comfort
Safety Adjustments for Fall Driving
To combat these fall driving hazards, consider the following strategies:
More Space: Maintain a 5 to 6-second gap between vehicles during poor visibility conditions to allow more time to react to road hazards.
Increased Vision: Regularly check mirrors and stay aware of your surroundings, as visibility can be compromised.
Be Cautious Around Schools: Familiarize yourself with school bus traffic laws and stay vigilant in neighborhoods during the school year.
Managing Driver Fatigue
If you find yourself feeling fatigued while driving, it’s essential to prioritize safety:

October 8, 2024Safety is critical in towing operations, and daily vehicle inspections play a vital role in keeping tow trucks roadworthy. Whether you’re part of the towing industry or manage a fleet, regular inspections help ensure that vehicles are operational and prepared for the demands of the job.
Why Daily Inspections Are Important
Daily inspections, conducted either before or after a trip, can spot issues before they turn into major problems. This not only reduces the risk of breakdowns but also prevents costly repairs and helps maintain a professional reputation. A poorly maintained truck can lead to delays, safety hazards, and loss of business.
What to Include in a Tow Truck Inspection
While a standard DOT inspection covers the basics like the cab and chassis, it’s important to go beyond that to include the tow body. A thorough inspection should cover:
Tires: Check for wear, proper inflation, and alignment.
Fluids: Ensure oil, coolant, brake, and transmission fluid levels are adequate.
Lights: Verify all safety lights, including brake and turn signals, are functioning.
Brakes: Examine pads and overall brake system effectiveness.
Winches and Tow Equipment: Inspect for wear or damage.

In this blog article, we’ll go over the top five things to do in the event that your automobile breaks down on the highway.
Move to safe Location
If possible, carefully move your vehicle to the closest parking space or the side of the road. Put the parking brake on, turn off the engine, and turn on the warning lights. Turn on inside lights if it’s dark to improve vision.

Stay Safe
Keep your windows closed and doors secured while you are inside your car. Steer clear of standing close to moving vehicles. Have a fully charged phone that you can reach in an emergency. The American Automobile Association (AAA) offers more tips on staying safe during a breakdown.
Follow Instructions
When help arrives, follow the tow truck operator’s instructions. They’ll deliver your car to a repair facility or anywhere you want it to go in safety. For your records, find out who is operating the car and where it is going.
